The Tarleton Libraries’ Archives and Special Collections curate and preserve materials relating to the distinctive history of Tarleton State University, Erath County, and the Cross Timbers region of north central Texas. These resources include manuscripts, photographs, rare books and serials, the permanent historical records of Tarleton State University, and local history materials. The Local History room was provided by the Friends of the Dick Smith Library.
The Archives house the legislative papers of former United States Representative Charles Stenholm, and Texas State Senators Bob Glasgow and Mike Moncrief, all Tarleton graduates. Also found here are records for Erath and other nearby Texas counties, in both original textual and microfilm formats, as a Regional Historical Resource Depository of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
The Library offers public access to a wide range of information, including historical materials that may contain offensive or inappropriate language and/or depictions. Such materials must be viewed in the context of the relevant time period. Tarleton State University and its Libraries do not endorse the views expressed in such materials and assume no legal liability related to its usage.
We are currently operating by appointment only.
