Boolean Searching

Be sure to help the database understand what you're thinking. Instead of typing in a full sentence, use combinations of keywords. The database will search for articles that contain those specific keywords, and your search will yield more accurate results.

The graphic and video below illustrates the different Boolean relationships between keywords ("kwd1" & "kwd2").

  • Using "AND" will look for articles that contain both keywords. (For example: "dog" AND "therapy")
  • Using "OR" will look for articles that contain any number of synonyms that you use. (For example: "dog OR puppy OR canine OR hound")
  • Using "NOT" will look for article that exclude certain words. (For example: NOT training)

Boolean Operators

Combine or separate keywords with Boolean operators so the database can make logical connections.
