Case 3: Evaluation Report: Financial Options for Ranch

As the manager of a ranch, you have been asked by the owner to identify ways to fundraise for the ranch. You will research ways to do so and then develop an evaluation report. The owner has several ranches that raise cattle, but the profits has dwindled due to the effects of the pandemic, including:

• Some overseas markets were closed from trading
• Short of employees who were sick or quit due to illness
• The local market was inundated with cattle product

For this project you are working with a small non-profit organization who specialize in finding funding for the agricultural sector.

1. Send a letter to the non-profit, via email, which includes a description of the project and timeline.
2. One of the researchers sends you an internal/informal report (a month in) about a few options. Share that informal report.
3. For the evaluation report, it’s important to find investment/financial sources to keep the ranches afloat. A good place to start is to identify state, federal or privately funded grants. Identify at least two (2) options, describe them, and evaluate the best financial option for your ranch/owner. The final report will be delivered to the owner.

Start with finding Grants.  It's easiest to start here to help identify what types of projects will be acceptable.

Next you will want to research supporting information on the effects of the pandemic on ranching and other projects that have successfully found funding.

I would recommend the Agriculture databases via the Library website for supporting information.
